2014 HOLIDAY EVENTS The Fort Benning Chaplains program will host the annual Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony at 6pm Dec. 2, on the Field of the Four Chaplains, Sigerfoos Drive, next to The Infantry Chapel. This free event includes holiday music by the MCoE Band and the Faith Middle School Band and Chorus, a visit from Santa, and refreshments! Bring your camera. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved inside The Infantry Chapel. For more information, call 706-545-2050. This is not an MWR event, but posted here as a courtesy. The MCoE Band will host the annual holiday concert at 4pm Dec. 7 at the Columbus RiverCenter. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Tickets are available at Tickets & Travel in the Commissary Mall. This event is open to the public. Tickets & Travel has $9 tickets (plus tax) to Callaway Gardens Fantasy In Lights. This is a savings of $15, on average. Children 5 and younger get in free, but they’ll need a “Free Admission” pass, also available at T&T. These tickets are for specific dates. I don’t have a list of dates. Even if you ask me a million times, I won’t have a list of dates. You’ll have to visit your friends at T&T for that. Give them a call at 706-626-7644. Fantasy In Lights is a must-see. It’s listed as one of the “Top 10 Places to See Holiday Lights” by National geographic, and they almost never lie. Don’t miss this opportunity. Trees For Troops returns to Fort Benning’s Wetherby Field Dec. 10. Well start handing out free live trees at 10:30am. Supplies are limited, of course, so come early. We’ll have elves available to help you load, but elf supplies are limited also, so bring somebody strong and capable if possible. These trees are donated to active duty Soldiers (and their families) by grateful Americans from across the country. You will receive only one tree per family with your military ID. Santa returns to Riverside for his annual visit with the families of Fort Benning from 5-8pm Dec. 11. When Santa shows up, we throw a party! Come early and enjoy free refreshments, games, prizes, crafts, face painting and more. For more information, call 706-545-1853. Welcome to the South, where we string Christmas lights to anything that stands still long enough. You (and you and you!) are invited to join us for the annual Airborne Tower Lighting Ceremony from 3-7pm Dec. 12 on Eubanks Field. This event is free. Santa will drop in, and we’ll open up those 34-foot training towers to give you a chance to test your fly! Jumping from a training tower should be on everyone’s Fort Benning Bucket List!) This event is free and open to the public. This is not an MWR event, but we like it so much we wanted to share. For your shopping convenience! CYSS offers child care from 9am- 2pm Dec. 13. The cost is $20 per child. Reservations are required by Dec 5. To make reservations, visit Parent Central, Bldg 104 Marchant Ave, or call 706-545-2079. Santa loves ya baby! And every year he offers unlimited express washes at MWR car wash facilities for $1 each during the month of December, because your ride should sparkle for the holidays. MWR car washes are located on Marchant Ave on Main Post, next to the Auto Skills Center, “under” the water tower on Harmony Church and next to the Commissary Mall on Marne Road. Use our free GuideOn smart phone app for turn-by-turn directions. The Mall Bowling Center will host the annual New Year’s Eve Bowlout from 7pm Dec. 31-1am Jan. 1. Unlimited bowling and a fabulous breakfast buffet for $60 per couple, $35 for individual and $15 per child younger than 10 until Dec. 24. After that, the cost increases to $70 per couple, $40 per individual and $20 per child. Reservations are strongly recommended for this popular event. Call 706-626-7781.
