2014: The Year in Review Transistor has put the Closed sign up - TopicsExpress

2014: The Year in Review Transistor has put the Closed sign up for the last time in 2014, and we are happy -- elated, actually -- to report that it was our best year ever. Thank you to everyone who helped make it happen! It was a year with absolutely no precedent. Some numbers ... We just finished our best month ever, a month in which our sales increased 86 percent over last December, and 77 percent over our previous best December (2011). This month of December included our best day ever, our best weekday ever, our best weekend ever, our best week ever. For the year we saw a 64 percent increase in sales over 2013 and a 51 percent increase over our previous best year (2011). Four of our five best non-December months happened in 2014 (the fifth of those being late last year in this location). A lot of people ask how our current location compares to our past locations. 2014 is (so far) the only full year weve spent at 3441 N. Broadway, and our sales this year represent a 140 percent increase over our only full year on Lincoln Avenue (2012) and a 97 percent increase over our only full year on Clark Street in Andersonville (2010). (To return for a moment to our Lincoln Avenue location, we did more sales in the last three months of 2014 here on Broadway than we did in ALL of 2012.) Of course, its not just about sales. In 2014 we played host to 100 sets of live music and hosted more than 40 other events, including 20+ films screenings. Thanks to all of the performers, film-makers, standup comedians (Dave Maher chief among them), literary readers, DJs, sound engineers (Jon and Charlie), and everyone who came to watch and listen. It was also the year we hired employees! They include Eileen Walsh, Mike Benz, Elyse Blennerhassett, Andrea Garces, Charlie Crane and Kendra Hutchings. We greatly benefited from contributions by volunteer Asha Vaidyanath and web programmer Ryan Cowan as well. Thank you all. Wed also like to thank artist contributors like Tim Jarosz, Hiroshi Ariyama, Rossana Reformado, Beth Hoeckel, Jen Husted-Goss, Cindy Tomczyk, Kevin Lucius, Kent Drake Morien, Jennifer Burak, Rafael Rivera, William Harper, Emily Martin, Laurie Freivogel, Michael Una, Dennis Johnson, Steve Connell, Sean Gallagher, John McCloskey, Bethany Nixon, Derek Keenan, and four duos, the Medium Control, Critter & Guitari, Surival Letter Press and Circa Ceramics. Without them, and many others, Transistor would not be the place you have come to know! And thanks as ever to Rani Young, co-founder of Transistor, who will have several paintings on display when we re-open Friday. Happy New Year. We hope to see you in 2015.
