2015 Call for NASW Indiana Chapter Leadership Election time is coming and the search for leaders is on! The Nominations and Leadership Identification Committee (NLIC) is now accepting nominations for candidates. The NLIC is seeking enthusiastic individuals who are committed to the profession, seeking to enhance their leadership abilities, willing to be part of the NASW Indiana professional Social Work community, and to work while having fun networking with other social workers. As a membership driven organization, the NASW Indiana offers a chance to develop and expand leadership skills and to be involved at a variety of levels within the governance of the association. If you are interested in a leadership role in moving NASW Indiana forward, please consider submitting your nomination for one of the positions listed below. You may self-nominate or nominate a friend or colleague who you think is an ideal candidate for a leadership position. Simply complete the Nominations Form and submit to the Chapter office or your Regional NLIC Representative. Nominees will be asked to complete a biographical fact sheet and election materials to be included in the election ballot. The slate will be approved by the Board of Directors. The election is held in the spring of 2015. DESCRIPTION OF POSITIONS AVAILABLE IN 2015 President-Elect: The first year is spent as President-Elect in learning the position of President and accepting assignments from the President. The next two years are spent as President of the Chapter. The President must have demonstrated leadership ability and experience in Chapter affairs to assure that the goals for the Chapter are attained, within the framework of the national and Chapter policies. This person is ex-officio member of all committees, makes assignments to the officers and Board members, appoints members to all Chapter committees, chairs the Executive Committee and Board meetings, reviews work of the Executive Director, and serves as first Delegate for Delegate Assembly. Treasurer-Elect: The Treasurer shall be elected one year in advance of assuming duties of the office of Treasurer. The Treasurer is responsible for the receipt, deposit, disbursement, and withdrawal of all Chapter funds and renders quarterly financial statements to the Board and Executive Committee. The Treasurer chairs the Finance Committee and oversees all financial activities of the Indiana Chapter. Secretary: The Secretary is responsible for the Board of Directors and Executive Committee meeting minutes, as well as other non-fiscal records of the Chapter. May write a synopsis of Board activities for Chapter correspondence. Member of the Board of Directors: (Applies to the Regional Representatives, MSW and BSW Student Representatives) Board Members are expected to attend all Board of Directors meetings, fulfill their job description and conduct business of the chapter in accordance with Chapter By-Laws, participate in decision-making process to fulfill the mission of the Chapter, serve on committees as requested by the President and interpret Board policies and decisions to Chapter membership. Delegate Assembly: The Delegate Assembly is the representative, decision-making body through which NASW members set broad organizational policy, establish program priorities, and develop a collective stance on public and professional issues. Regional Representatives: Represent their respective Regions while MSW and BSW Student Board members represent students statewide. These Board members must be able to identify issues and concerns of their respective constituencies and advocate on their behalf. Regional Representatives are also responsible for the implementation of Chapter goals and local program activity in their respective Regions with support of the Chapter office and other Board members. They serve as Chairpersons of their regional steering committee. Nominations and Leadership Identification Committee (NLIC): Committee members participate in annually developing at least a double slate of candidates for Chapter elections that reflect the Association’s Diversity Plan. Inform all candidates and appointees of the duties and responsibilities of office and are available to meet (via conference call) as often as necessary to assure a sound nominations and election process.
