2015 GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION : NOW THAT (INEC) HAS RELEASED THE 2015 ELECTION TIMETABLE, WE URGE ELDER PETER GODSDAY ORUBEBE TO DECLARE HIS INTENTION TO CONTEST THE 2015 GUBERNATORIAL ELECTION. I hereby call on all civil society groups and organisations, interest groups and all well meaning Deltans to join in appealing to the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs to indicate his interest now. This call is based on the fact that : (1) Non of the aspirants is more saintly than PGO - Peter Godsday Orubebe? (2) Non of the aspirants is having more political knowledge and political pedigree than Orubebe? (3) All the aspirants are from the ethnic groups/tribes that have produced either the Deputy Governor or Governor since the creation of Delta state. Out of the ethnic groups/tribes in Delta State, only Ijaw and Isoko ethnic groups or tribes that have not produced neither the Deputy Governor nor the Governor since the creation of Delta State in August 1991. (4) Non of the aspirants has performed better than Orubebe while holding a political post. IT IS THE PORTION OF ELDER PETER GODSDAY ORUBEBE THAT PROTOCOLS WILL BE BROKEN FOR HIM TO BE THE NEXT GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE IN 2015. MY BELOVED ELDER AND MINISTER, YOUR DESTINY AS GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE IN 2015 MUST MANIFEST TO THE GLORY OF GOD. MY BELOVED ELDER AND MINISTER, YOUR DESTINY AS GOVERNOR OF DELTA STATE IN 2015 IS IN THE HAND OF GOD. GOD KNOWS HOW TO WORK OUT HIS PURPOSE FOR MAN AND YOUR CASE WILL NOT BE DIFFERENT. YOUR EXPECTATION SHALL NOT BE CUT OFF. PETER GODSDAY ORUBEBE - PGO Potential Governor Ordained for Delta State in 2015. NO ONE CAN STOP THE ONE THAT GOD HAS DECIDED TO HAVE MERCY ON. FOR GOD SAID I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I WILL HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I WILL HAVE COMPASSION. SO THEN IT IS NOT OF HIM THAT WILLETH, NOR OF HIM THAT RUNNETH, BUT OF GOD THAT SHOWETH MERCY (ROMANS 9: 15-16) NON OF THE ASPIRANTS IS HAVING MORE POLITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND POLITICAL PEDIGREE THAN ELDER PETER GODSDAY ORUBEBE. PGO - Peter Godsday Orubebe has B.Sc in Political Science and a Masters Degree in International Relations. Orubebe was a Supervisory Councilor, and later Chairman of Burutu LGA. Adviser to the Former Governor of the Delta State, State Chairman of All Nigerian Peoples Party, ANPP. In 2007, President Umaru Yar’Adua appointed him Minister of Special Duties, later he became Minister of State for Niger Delta Affairs when that ministry was created in December 2008. Peter Godsday Orubebe was appointed Minister of Niger Delta on 6 April 2010, when Acting President Goodluck Jonathan announced his new cabinet. The Minister, Elder P. G Orubebe, achieved almost 100 percent implementation of 2012 budget in November 2012 in the Ministry of Niger Delta. This is a rare fit to attain. The Minister articulately presented and defended the 2013 budget before the Senate Committee on Niger Delta. IJAW AND ISOKO HAVE NOT PRODUCED NEITHER THE DEPUTY GOVERNOR NOR THE GOVERNOR SINCE THE CREATION OF DELTA STATE SINCE THE CREATION OF DELTA STATE IN AUGUST 1991. However the ANIOMA group are clamoring that the Governor in 2015 should come from their tribe and the reason being adduced is that their tribe have not produced the Governor of the State since the creation of the State in August 1991. Suffice it to say that the ANIOMA group have produced three (3) Deputy Governors since the creation of the State. They are as follows : (1) Chief John D. Edozien from Asaba Anioma group- In 1990 he was appointed deputy Governor of Bendel State and played a role in the subsequent creation of Delta State. Thereafter he moved to the new Delta State in the same capacity and as a member of the pioneer administration that ensured the successful take off of the new state in 1993. (2) Chief Simeon Ebonka from Ika - Anioma group who was Deputy Governor to Olorogun Felix Ibru Governor January 1992 - November 1993 SDP Party. (3) Chief Benjamin Elue from Aniocha - Anioma group Deputy Governor to Chief James Ibori Governor 29 May 1999 - 29 May 2007 PDP Party. The URHOBO tribe have produced two (2) Governors and one Deputy Governor since the creation of the State. They are as follows : (1) Olorogun Felix Ibru from Agbara-Otor, Urhobo Governor January 1992 - November 1993 SDP Party. (2) Chief James Ibori from Oghara, Urhobo Governor 29 May 1999 - 29 May 2007 PDP Party. (3) Prof. Amos Agbe Utuama SAN, from Ughelli South L.G.A, Urhobo Deputy Governor to Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan Governor 29 May 2007 - till 2015 PDP Party. The ITSEKIRI tribe has produced one (1) Governor since the creation of the State namely: (1) Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan from Itsekiri, Governor 29 May 2007 - till 2015 PDP Party. One will not forget to mention that under the Military, Delta State had six (6) Military Governors either as Military Administrators or Military Governors and none of them was from Delta State as an indigene or can lay claim to Delta State as his State of origin. I stand to be corrected on this claim. The main reason why the ANIOMA group is clamoring for the Governor is because of need for equity, fairness and justice in the polity. If we should go by the need for EQUITY, FAIRNESS AND JUSTICE in the polity in Delta State, then the remaining two (2) tribes namely IJAW and ISOKO that have neither produced the Governor nor the Deputy Governor since the creation of Delta State in August 1991 about 22 years ago have been seriously marginalized. Based on the need for equity, fairness and justice in the polity, an IJAW man should be the next Governor of the Delta State and if there is no candidate from IJAW tribe, then an ISOKO man should be the next Governor. Since Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe is interested, all other tribes should support him. Infact, Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe should be considered, supported and voted for come 2015. THE PERFORMANCE OF ELDER PETER ORUBEBE AS MINISTER OF MNDA. The Minister, Elder P. G Orubebe, achieved almost 100 percent implementation of 2012 budget in November 2012 in the Ministry of Niger Delta. This is a rare fit to attain. The Minister articulately presented and defended the 2013 budget before the Senate Committee on Niger Delta and the Ministry is working and he is working. The Presidency and traditional fathers of Bolou-Ndoro and Ogbobagbene communities of Burutu Local Goverment Area, Delta State, confirmed the existence of projects of the MNDA in the area. The royal fathers stated that youths of the community were meaningfully engaged by the contracting firms to execute the projects. The Section 1 & 2 of the Project at OKOSO Bridge Section of the EAST-WEST ROAD in Bayelsa State is in progress. OKOSO BRIDGE Section of the Road stretches over 800Meters, sitting on a large mass of Water. The Dual Carriage Bridge is been reconstructed with a NEW DESIGN & Plan as against its defunct state before the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs took over the construction of the EAST- WEST ROAD. The Minister, was conducted round the Project Site by Engr. SAID KALAF (MD/CEO) SETRACO NIG, Elder Orubebe lauded the Contractors for their commitment so far and urged them to speed up Work on the Project stating that Nigerians and Niger Deltans are earnestly waiting for the completion of the EAST- WEST ROAD. In another development, the minister also roll out the achievements of his Ministry in a press release titled, “ Elder Godsday Orubebe’s Niger Delta and the Challenges Besetting the East-West Road”, extracted from Elder Godsday Orubebe, the Minister pointed out that the creation of Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has brought to the consciousness and knowledge of Niger Deltans the true meaning and reality of infrastructural transformation in the midst of prevailing natural setbacks which has been highlighted as the bane behind the environmental and infrastructural decadence suffered for decades. He added that the Ministry over the years has embarked on landslide projects mostly on Roads, Bridges and affordable Housing facilities in all the Nine States of the region which are aimed at improving the socio-economic lifestyle of both residents and natives. “The Ministry has played significant roles in the region through the areas of Human Capital Development and Education, thus prioritizing the needs of the less privileged through Job creation, wealth creation and Local content generation anchored skill acquisition centres sited all over the region. “The Vagaries of achievements are evident enough for the due assimilation, evaluation and appreciation undermining the destructive criticism of some unpatriotic few that may not be far from political interests/vendetta and unnecessary witch-haunting. Thus achieving the aims and vision of the Ministry which includes to oversee the implementation of Government policies on the development and security of the Niger Delta region, coordinate the formulation of the development plan for the region, formulate policies and programmes for youth mobilization in the Niger Delta region, advice Government on security issues concerning the region and liaise with relevant Government, non- government and private sector organizations. ”Others are formulate and coordinate policies for environmental management, liaise with host communities for the enhancement of the welfare of the people and the development of the region, facilitate sector involvement in the region and plan and supervise programmes on public education/enlightenment among others. He said the East-West dual carriageway project awarded in 2006 by the Olusegun Obasanjo administration of which technical design should have taken about one-year, but was hurriedly done within two weeks. “When the contract was awarded in 2006, only a paltry sum of N1.8 billion was paid as mobilization fee to the contractors, and in 2009, when the project was handed over to the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs by the Federal Ministry of Works, only 10 per cent of work had been done. “In 2010 I sat down with my team and we did a feasibility study and re- designed the road and now you can see significant progress in terms of construction. I inherited the inadequacies of the defunct contract at transfer and using the unspent funds left in the defunct Section II contract as contract ceiling, re- awarded Section II, with the scope of works unchanged to Messrs. Setraco Nig. Ltd. in April/May 2009 in two sub sections, namely: Section II Sub Section I: Port Harcourt – Ahoada (47km) at a contract sum of N29.92 billion with a completion period of 48 months and Section II Sub Section II: Ahoada – Kaiama (54Km) at a Contract sum of N44.883 billion with a completion period of 36 months,” he said. As I put down my sword mightier pen, it is very important we put the record straight before the very eyes of our esteemed public who had been deceived over time by over zealous elements, the minister is an achiever and he is ever willing to do more to ensure we derive the very best dividends of democracy.
