2015: INI STATE CONSTITUENCY RACE GETS MESSIER. *AS YOUTHS, ELDERS REJECT ‘IRAQ’, SEND WRONG SIGNAL TO PAUL EKPO. ‘MY BOSS MAY WITHDRAWN FROM THE RACE’ AFFIRMED IRAQ’S AIDE. There may be scores of bloodbath and wanton destruction of properties in the forthcoming Ini State Constituency race if the state chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Obong Paul Ekpo insists on rigging primaries and election in favour of the former youth leader of PDP, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, who is aspiring for the seat, despite being overwhelmingly rejected by his family, village and the entire people of the area. At the inconclusive ward ADHOC delegate election in the state, held over the weekend, it was gathered that, Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong, who wore a bullet prove vest and entered the venue of the state headquarters of the party with a truck load of renowned cultists, suspected to be Ogoni Boys and his Crowd Control Unit boys, was intercepted by Ini indigenes, while trying to smuggle the election materials. Mr. Ekong Udoka, an eyewitness said that, Mr. Ekpenyong wanted to smuggle the election material via the returning officer, Mr. Charles, who also coordinates youths for Obong Bassey Albert Campaign Organization in the area, but was intercepted by Ini Indigenes who were bent on ensuring that due process is followed, adding that, the indigenes were aggrieved ‘and on the process, they beat up Emmanuel Ekpenyong’. Hear him, ‘It was a drama in the PDP secretariat on Saturday during the PDP ward congress across the state, the problem started when Mr. Ekpenyong who came into the venue with Ogoni Boys and some of his cultists from CCU and wanted to smuggle the election material through one Mr. Charles, the Ini Local Government coordinator of OBA but was intercepted by youths of the area, who are bent on ensuring that due process was followed. An argument and dragging ensued between the two factions, in the process, Emmanuel Ekpenyong fell Flat on de ground even with the bullet proof vest he wore.’ Another source hinted that, the said Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Popularly known as Iraq had also mobilized men suspected to be police from anti robbery unit to aid in running away with the election materials, noting that, the police officers only resorted to bundling him inside a waiting police van in order to save themselves from the irate youths. ‘ After the disgrace, the hoodlums he carried to disguise as police officers were ashamed, in order to avert danger and disgrace, he was parceled into one waiting police van beside the party secretariat and driven to Ini Local Government headquarter like a Christmas goat.’ The source posited. A state officer of the party who opted for anonymity, wondered why the assumed king of the boys and Chairman of Akwa Ibom State Youth Caucus could be reduced to a mere toy even in the very office, he reluctantly resigned few weeks ago to contest the House of Assembly election. It was learnt that, prior to the ward congress, a meeting was convened at the instance of the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr. Glory Ekong were she opted for justice, equity and fairplay in the forthcoming race and urged Iraq to exhibit sportsmanship but he was not comfortable with the arrangement and wanted to play fast on them by conniving with anti-robbery police men to disappear with material. It will be recalled that, preceding the ward congress, there was a publication on local tabloids by the elders and Youths of Ini Local Government that they dont want a stranger to represent them in the House of Assembly, referring to Emmanuel Ekpenyong aka Iraq. According to the elders, Emmanuel Ukoette is a native of Oro Nation but was given birth to an Ini daughter. Meanwhile, the youths of the area, under the auspices of Ini Youth Movement, has urged the state PDP chairman, Obong Paul Ekpo, to allow for free, fair and transparent election, else lose Ini local government area to another party. The chairman of the movement, Mr. Samson David urged the state governor to intervene and allow the electioneering process in the area to be free and fair. Reacting, an aide to Mr. Emmanuel Ekpenyong said that, his boss may likely withdraw from the race, pointing that, he is opting for a re-appointment as special assistant to the executive governor. ‘At the moment, my boss having sensing failure and disgrace is contemplating begging the Governor to return him as his Personal assistant on Youth mobilization, the position he relinquished few days ago. His aspiration, Has a big question mark that only can interpret or answer. Eventually, if he had won, he would have been challenged in the law court as holding a dual office. This is one aspect, the Governor and the Party is very careful and wouldnt want to make a mistake’. He maintained.
