2015 New Year’s Resolutions for Car Owners RESOLVE to schedule two checkups for your car in 2015 regardless of how well you think you know your vehicle; a well-trained (and certified) technician can always spot things ahead of time. Taking the time to schedule a checkup twice a year may seem obsessive, but preventative maintenance at the hands of a qualified professional is worth the assurance that your vehicle will run smoothly throughout the year. RESOLVE to keep up with your car’s fluid changes in 2015. This is VERY important! Checking your vehicle’s fluids is paramount to its longevity. While some fluids like brake fluid, clutch fluid and coolant may not require attention as often as oil, they’re just as important. R & G Service Center suggests simply marking one day on your calendar each month to make sure all of your fluids are topped off. Its quick, easy and can save you some serious repair dollars down the line. Also remember to change those fluids when your service manual requires it! RESOLVE to check your car’s tires and wheels in 2015. If your tires have worn unevenly or your wheels are unbalanced, vibration can cause excess stress on suspension components. Excess stress on certain car parts can mean extra trips to the mechanic and potentially hefty bills. This will eventually happen if you continue to ignore such problems. Avoid this by checking to make sure the tread on your tires are wearing evenly – and bring your car in if it’s not. RESOLVE to address your car’s minor problems early. Perhaps this is the easiest responsibility to overlook, but the potential consequences of doing so can be catastrophic. It’s easy to hear a strange noise in your vehicle and hope that it will go away. Unfortunately, it rarely “goes away”. Don’t put off minor maintenance and repairs as doing so can lead to larger problems and larger repair bills in the end. Most importantly, RESOLVE to make sure Everyone Buckles Up. Seatbelts reduce serious crash-related injuries and deaths among drivers and passengers by approximately 50%, and despite those statistics, many people still neglect to buckle up. Announce to your passengers this is your car rule, regardless if it is down the highway or just a mile or so across town. Owning a car should be fun, not a hassle. Resolve to make your car maintenance a priority in 2015 by staying ahead of unnecessary repairs and service. The minimal effort required to do this is worth every second.
