2015: WE’LL NOT ALLOW POLITICS TEAR RIVERS APART – BRIGGS A Niger Delta activist and delegate to the ongoing National Conference, Ms. Ann-Kio Briggs, has expressed worry over agitation from various ethnic groups in Rivers State over who will succeed Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in 2015, and charged political actors not to allow politics to tear the state apart. Briggs, who gave the charge in a chat with newsmen in Port Harcourt, said it would be unfair if either Ogonis or Ijaws in Rivers State are not allowed to occupy the Brick House, the Rivers State seat of power from May 29, 2015. She stated that all true and well- meaning people of the state will not allow politicians throw the state into crisis, adding that justice, equity and fairness must be upheld because all the ethnic groups in the state jointly own the state. The Niger Delta activist further declared that the supervising minister for education, Chief Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike, cannot aspire to succeed Governor Amaechi because he is from the same Ikwere ethnic group with the outgoing governor. Briggs said, “I have never heard Chief Nyesom Wike open his mouth to say that he wants to be governor of Rivers State. So if he has not said he wants to contest, people who are using Wike’s name to tear Rivers State apart, particularly my own ethnic group, the Kalabari people, they should be careful because when they destroy their land they will not hold anybody responsible. If we are looking at fairness and equity in 2015 in Rivers State, the people that have the moral right to ask for consideration are the Ijaws and Ogoni people. The Ogoni people have never governed the state before.” leadership.ng/news/367032/2015-well-allow-politics-tear-rivers-apart-briggs
