21 ST CENTURY What will distinguish this century from any other? So far nothing, absolutely nothing, but projecting forward and trying to look backwards, this could be the century in which the Internet allowed humanity to wake up and give rise to popular activism on a scale that did not previously exist, an unimaginably impressive and awe inspiring scale. It might be the century that North Korea was opened up as the only remaining closed nation on the planet. It might be the century that rich and powerful cartels and sociopaths were brought to heel, allowing government by the people for the people. It might be the century that gave rise to the first genuine democracy. It might be the century that first saw, understood and learned the lessons of a previous century and allowed these to fundamentally direct and change life in this century. It might be the first century in which a universal charter of human rights was embraced and enacted by all nations, something which has only existed on paper to date, and It might be the century in which humans devised a system of education capable of delivering freedom, equality and a dignified and ethical standard of living for all humans, but this will not happen by accident, and talk alone will not allow this to happen, and the current condition of most humans will not be cause to effect this, in all likelihood nothing will change, unless what will affect this is if the citizens of those wealthy nations who are asleep in their hundreds of millions can wake up and demand fairness, justice and equality for all humans without reference to skin colour or national boundaries. The difference between what is and what could be, is the difference between wilful blindness and universal active indignation.
