21 September 2014 OBEDIENCE THROUGH SUFFERING Memory Verse: Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered (Heb 8). Read: Heb 5:8-9 8: Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered, 9: and, once made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him. Message The word ‘suffering’ is one of those words that believers shun from. Many Christians believe that being a Christian exempts them from problems in life. However, Jesus taught otherwise. He told His disciples that they would have problems in this world (John 16:33). He was not tentative in His statement, he was telling them they would definitely experience challenges. He was telling them this beforehand so that they would have peace in Him knowing that He had already overcome on their behalf. This is because in the journey of life, sufferings will come our way, but, victory is certain. Jesus experienced His share of suffering, and the end of it, was perfection. God wants to do the same with you and me, to perfect us into the image that He wants us to bear. However, just as silver and gold are purified by fire, the process of our perfection will also include some form of suffering (Zach 13:9). It is through this suffering that we will be ushered into our perfection that we must learn obedience. Action Point Jesus is the Biblical model for all believers to follow and one of the things that we can learn from His life is that He had to learn obedience through suffering. He did not take shortcuts in life; instead, He faced the sufferings that were ahead of Him and through this process, He learned obedience. The same is expected from you and me, that we face our suffering head on, knowing that through them, obedience is guaranteed. With God on your side, no amount of suffering can destroy you. Instead, see suffering as an opportunity to learn obedience with the knowledge that through your Obedience and you will be perfected. @ Prophet Shepherd Bushiri
