#21: “The Storm This is an awesome song but it seems that the Garth Brook’s version has been completely scrubbed from the interwebz. This is a cover: youtube/watch?v=1F7h0KgYWHU. When it was pretty clear our marriage was over, I came to a decision to fight for our relationship one last time. Many people who were close to us at the time thought we should just let it all go. But for me, it was an easy decision based on the answer to one question: “If we were no longer together, what would I feel like if Greg came to the door to pick up Bub?” So I put aside my defensiveness, my fear, my rules, my anger, my confusion, and I loved and honored my husband. I took all of the what ifs, our past mistakes, the current challenges, and I loved with everything I had. I greeted him when he came home, always turning the outdoor lights on before he got home so he would feel welcome, I took time to acknowledge his day, to help him transition into ‘homelife.’ I was by no means a Stepford wife or whatever else you may be imagining, but I was present, I was there in the moment, recognizing Greg as an important part of our little family. I wasn’t a passive dolt, and I returned to my full-time career. Greg was going through the motions of marriage but had checked out months ago, so I knew that I needed to prepare for the possibility of a future as a single mother. But meanwhile, I gave our marriage 100 percent. I can’t speak for what Greg was thinking, planning, or doing at this point, I just knew I could only walk away without regrets if I did everything that *I* could do first. #garthbrooks #lovestory
