22 July 2013 Nigeria, Jersey, Vanuatu post wins Nigeria pips Jersey for top spot with a higher net run rate Nigeria beat Kuwait, Bahrain lost to Jersey and Vanuatu secured a win against Argentina on day two of the Pepsi ICC World Cricket League Division 6 tournament on Monday (July 21). Put to bat at St Saviour, Nigeria posted 263-9 in 50 overs aided by the all-round performance of its captain Kunle Adegbola. Dotun Olatunji was the top scorer with 66 runs, Ricky Sharma and Kunle Adegbola scored 47 and 44 respectively. The stand out bowler for Kuwait was Shahrukh Quddus who completed a five-wicket haul, returning 5-59 runs in 10 overs. In response, Kuwait’s batsmen failed to put up any resistance and folded for 152 in 40.2 overs. Hisham Mirza, the captain, fell one short of a half-century, while Kunle Adegbola took 4-36 in 8.2 overs as Nigeria beat Kuwait by massive 111 runs. Choosing to field at St Berlade, Jersey restricted Bahrain to 245-7 in 50 overs. Mohammad Dar was the lead scorer with 60 runs. Cornelis Bodenstein and Tom Minty both took two wickets each, returning identical figures of 2-53 in ten overs. Peter Gough, the Jersey captain, then ensured that his side faced no hiccoughs in chasing down the competitive target, hitting 100 off 122 balls in a seven-wicket win. Gough shared crucial partnerships with Corey Bisson (56) and Ben Stevens (69) as Jersey won with six overs to spare. Vanuatu posted its first win in two matches after beating Argentina by six wickets at St Clement. Batting first, Argentina managed only 169 in 49.4 overs. Pablo Ferguson, the opener, scored a half century. Jaxies Samuel was the most impressive Vanuatu bowler with figures of 2-20. The batsmen chased down the small target in just 42.5 overs, with Damian Smith remaining unbeaten on 73. Worford Kalworai, who had hit a half-century against Nigeria on Sunday, continued his good form with a composed 45. Lucas Paterlini returned figures of 2-37 for Argentina. The teams face-off next on Wednesday (July 24) after a day’s break.
