22nd torchlight procession in Eindhoven Where: Wilhelminaplein, Eindhoven When: 24 December 2013, 18.00 hrs The 22nd torchlight procession for peace and tolerance will be held in the city of Eindhoven this Christmas Eve, 24 December. The event starts at 18.00 hrs on the Wilhelminaplein with a programme of music and poetry. At 19.00 hrs alderman Yasin Torunoglu and the Turkish consul Togan Oral will light the first torch, marking the start of the procession. Many other activities will take place along the route, and all are welcome to join in. The torchlight procession is a long-established part of the Christmas season for many people in and around Eindhoven. Through this activity the city shows that people are willing to commit themselves to a society in which tolerance and respect are key issues. Living together requires not only tolerance, but also an attitude of ‘give and take’. That applies to all of us, regardless of colour, race or religion. Programme Not only will thousands of torches be lit from 19.00 hrs onwards, residents along the route will also express their solidarity by placing candles in their windows. Participants can also enjoy a number of music and poetry contributions. The procession is followed by a great on�stage programme with performances by the Turkish band Cagdas & Ercan. As usual the square will be filled with stalls offering coffee, hot chocolate, soup and pancakes. Before the procession a service will be held at the Catharina church in Eindhoven, with the emphasis on living together peacefully with the Muslim community in the Netherlands. The service will be led by the imam of the Fatih mosque, together with a priest and a vicar. After the procession there will be an opportunity to visit the Fatih mosque.
