23 years ago I saw her standing at the bottom of the stands at a local football game in early November. I told my friend, “I’m going to marry that girl” without even meeting her. Three years after that, and becoming my best friend, on March 5, 1994, she agreed to by my wife. 20 years later, nothing makes me smile more than hearing the front door open, and watching her walk down the hallway towards our living room when she gets home. I can’t fill a box with enough gifts and gold to match the 3 treasures (Morgan, Michael, and Madeline) she’s given me in 20 years. No pain is worse than when we argue; no joy greater than watching her blue eyes smile at me when she’s happy. I have two rules for life: 1) make her smile every day, and 2) make her laugh every day. Some days are more difficult than others, and some easier than they should be. In the end, it keeps us close, and nothing makes me happier than seeing her smile. I would actually lay my life down for her, and I’m not simply regurgitating a cliché. I can make no promise to her for the future other than this: I will spend the next 20 years trying to make you smile every day, and trying to make you laugh every day. The two don’t go hand-in-hand, but rather make two unique, special moments every day I get to spend with her. I love you, Wife! Happy 20th Anniversary!
