23 years ago today (on 27th July, 1990) The Muslimeen led by Imam Yasin Abu-Bakr staged an attempted coup which sought to overthrow our democratically elected NAR Government led by the then Prime Minister ANR Robinson. Many reasons and scenarios have been articulated but the fact remains that lives were lost, families were broken, buildings were destroyed, money was wasted and the country was held to ransom. My main concern with all of this is simple ---> have any of our governments since that fateful day learnt any lessons from the cause (s) of this attempted coup! I highly doubt it ... Governments past and present have ALL demonstrated contempt for the middle and working classes and still our tribal politics run rampant! Everybody wants a change, but none of the politicians has a clue and not one of them willing to be that change! 23 years on and we have learnt nothing from the events leading up to 27th July 1990! Still I love my country!
