235 - 27...you borrow from the 3 and then change the 5 to 15 correct. WHY??? (COMMON CORE makes you ask why.) Many people say it doesnt matter why, thats the way I learned it. 3 hours 5 minutes - 1 hour 20 minutes, are you going to borrow from the 3 and change the 5 to 15...I hope not, 10 minutes do not equal 1 hour, IT DOES MATTER... in the first problem you were in base 10 math, second , base 60. There is a method to the madness, COMMON CORE teaches depth. Is it perfect, no. But parents/educators please dont bash this in front of your children if we are required by law to teach this and we are adapting it to meet their needs. We are professionals and need your support. If the curriculum is not for you, or your child, there are other avenues you can pursue.
