23Jan2015 - Liam got his NG tube today. His medical team thought it would be better to place the tube before mucositis made it difficult/impossible to place. He can continue to eat and drink, but the tube allows fluids to be inserted directly into his tummy. Honestly, he is not a fan of the tube. He doesnt yet realize that he will no longer have to taste the oral meds that he REALLY doesnt like or that nutrition can be delivered directly to his tummy so that his intestines still have the opportunity to work. While I have the benefit of understanding why the tube needed to be placed, I do not like to see my child so upset. He had played well this morning, but this afternoon after the tube was placed, he retreated...like a turtle hiding in its shell. He napped in my arms, communicated with tiny head nods/shakes, and ate very little. He enjoyed Music Therapy by cuddling very close, but was not the happy smiling boy who was fully engaged last week...even though his music therapist brought him the worlds biggest pick to play a ukelele. Tonight, after we watched Master Chef Junior with Fred and his siblings (thanks, Hulu and FaceTime), I finally got Liam to smile with the NG tube. I pretended to eat his toes, fingers, elbows, and tummy...then showered him with kisses. We then talked about all the people we love. I knew he was coming back out of his shell when he said, Dottie. I had listed everyone, but had forgotten my parents dog. He hadnt. He loves that dog. Prayer Requests: 1) JOY! 2) HEALTH 3) REST
