24 October 1990: 1. Patsy Gillespie, 42-year-old Catholic civilian, married with 3 children, a canteen worker. 2. Stephen Burrows, 30-years-old, married with 1 child, a soldier with the Kings Regiment holding the rank of Lance-Corporal. 3. Stephen Roy Beacham, 20-years-old, co-habiting with 2 children and a soldier with the Kings Regiment. 4. Vincent J. Scott, 21-years-old, single and a soldier with the Kings Regiment. 5. David Andrew Sweeney, 19-years-old, single and a soldier with the Kings Regiment. 6. Paul Desmond Worral, 23-years-old, single and a soldier with the Kings Regiment. Mr Gillespie was a civilian worker on an army base in Londonderry. He was used by the IRA as the 1st human bomb. He was forced to drive a large explosive device to a military checkpoint where it exploded. The bomb was set to explode while he was still in the drivers seat. When the bomb exploded, it murdered him and 5 soldiers. Mr Gillespie lived at Lenamore Gardens, Galliagh in Londonderrys Shantallow area. He worked at the Fort George army base in Londonderry. When armed men arrived at his home, they held his family hostage and ordered him to drive a van bomb to the Coshquin vehicle checkpoint on the Donegal border. There was enormous damage to the fortified army checkpoint caused by the explosion. Three soldiers died at the scene and 2 more were pronounced dead upon arrival at hospital. LCpl Burrows was in the army for 11 years and had a 3-year-old son. He was from Blackpool. Kingsman Beacham was from Warrington, Cheshire and was due for promotion. Kingsman Scott was from Walton, Liverpool and was about to leave the army in a month. Kingsman Sweeney was from Widnes, Cheshire and was engaged to be married. Kingsman Worral was serving with the regiments 1st Battalion. He was from Runcorn, Cheshire. LEST WE FORGET!
