24 years ago today my first born child Melanie arrived. Melanie changed our lives forever as any first child will do. But our lives were changed in ways we would never imagine, would never have even wanted to imagine. We learned from Melanie - we learned patience, we learned grace, we learned unbelievable negotiation skills, we learned medical skills, we learned what faith was, we learned about how the human spirit can be challenged, broken and healed. We learned how to look death in the face over and over again and win. We learned how to turn hope into a lifestyle. We learned the ultimate truest form of unconditional love by letting our little girl go when it was her time. Melanie was a light that was turned on in all of us, and although she isnt here physically with us, that light is forever on in all of us. Please try and smile today as much as possible to as many people as possible - do it in memory of Melanie - to know that many people are smiling because of her will comfort me today!
