26 September 2013 | By Joe Morgan Guido Barilla is in hot water for his comments about gay people in his adverts. Italian pasta company Barilla is making a name for itself – as the European Chick-fil-A. Guido Barilla, the chairman of the privately owned company, got himself in hot water when he said the company will never use gay couples in their ads as they are in favor of the ‘traditional family’. If gay people do not like it, then ‘they can always go eat someone else’s pasta.’ Speaking to an Italian radio show, Barilla said: ‘We won’t include gays in our ads, because we like the traditional family. ‘If gays don’t like it, they can always eat someone else’s pasta. Everyone is free to do what they want, provided it doesn’t bother anyone else.’ ‘Everyone has the right to do what they want without disturbing those around them’ he said. ‘I have no respect for adoption by gay families because this concerns a person who is not able to choose.’ The comments caused a huge outrage among Italian gay rights groups. Campaigners are urging a worldwide boycott of Barilla brands, which include Voiello pasta and Misko products. As the outrage heated up to a boiling point, Barilla was forced to apologize today (26 September). ‘I’m sorry if my comments on La Zanzara have created misunderstanding or polemic, or if I’ve offended anyone,’ he said. ‘In the interview I only wanted to underline the central role of the woman in the family," he said.
