27 February 2014 Hamilton Hawks Wrestling Club News Hi All Welcome to another year of wrestling. We hope you were able to enjoy the festive season (whenever that was now) and summer break with family and friends and benefit from some restful time during some part of December and/or January. We are certainly looking forward to an enjoyable and successful season. Special welcome to new members this season, and also to the HBHS team who will be training with the Club this term. If you need any assistance or questions to be answered, please do not hesitate to ask. Committee I have decided to resign from the Club Committee, but it is with great pleasure that we welcome Brian Roche as CEO of the Club this year. Brian has been involved with wrestling for a number of years – he was a wrestler “back in the day” and assisted coaching last year with our Under 12 group. His leadership will be invaluable to the Club and I am sure all members will assist him in making his job an easy one. If there is anything you think you could help with on the Committee or at a tournament, please let either Brian or Christina know. Our new Committee is: CEO/Coach Brian Roche Secretary Christina Hunt Treasurer Mike Coyne Club Captain. Pete Pouri-Lane Coach Dave McBeth Koria has also decided to step down as Coach from the Under 12 group. A big thank you to Koria for giving up her time over the past few years to manage this group. Brian will now take over coaching this area and Dave will coach the Over 12’s group. Pete’s role as Club Captain will be to oversee both coaching areas and assist members with any issues they may have. Tournaments In 2014 the Club is hosting the NZSS Champs (at HBHS) on 12 April; Waikato Champs (at Fairfield) on 25 May) and NZ Nationals in September (venue to be confirmed, but hopefully HBHS). We will also have one minor tournament in August. NZOWU is hosting a team from Oregon in July and it is hoped that Hamilton will be invited to assist with this. The NZOWU wrestling calendar will be confirmed at their AGM on 8 March and once this has been approved, this will be recirculated to members and included in future newsletters. However in the interim, the upcoming events include: 30 March YMI Tournament 1 April Auckland Secondary School Championships 6 April Katikati Tournament 12 April NZ Secondary School National Championships 20-21 April National Training Camp, Karapiro Oceanias NZ Wrestling has a large contingent of wrestlers competing in the Oceania Championships in American Samoa from 18-22 March. We wish our own Club wrestlers, Keilen Hunt, Teo Pouri-Lane, Jordan Marshall and Aaron Quinlan all the best for a successful tournament.
