2JN 1:6 NIV And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. This seemingly circular syllogism is actually a clever way to explain the inseparable link between obedience and love for those who would follow Christ Jesus. To love is to obey Christs command to walk in love. So, true love is obedience. And what does obedience look like? Like God: love. Not the contemporary, spineless western world tolerance but the self-sacrificing, hard-decision making, boundary setting, God type of love. It doesnt attempt to accept everything in order to please and be liked by everybody. It accepts Christs rule and the boundaries set down in Gods word; thereby, not only pleasing God themselves, but showing as-yet-unbelievers the way to live life (to walk) in order to please God.
