2nd Chapter - How to Design Your Interior As a Couple Now that we have gone through the answer and question portion of our 1st chapter we can get started on what room or rooms to start decorating. If you did not read the 1st chapter please go back and do the exercise before moving on to this segment. The exercise that we did in chapter one hopefully gave you some insight on your partners style and design choice. Picking the right room to start with can be a positive direction in creating the house that you both will enjoy living in for years to come. The reason that I want to start with one room is to see how the two of you are going to work together to create this room. 1. Agree on a room. If you cant then start on a guest room or a room that is not important to either one of you. If you can agree on a room then this will help you get one step closer to your goal, the whole house. 2. Go through your paper from the last chapter and write down all of the design elements that you both have in common. If you also have some design elements that are similar but not exact those will do as well. 3. The design elements that you did not agree on go back to. On each one that you wrote down I want to assign it a number from 1-5, 1 being very important to you and 5 being least important. You can have several numbers that are the same. For example wood floors are very important to you so you put a 1 next to it; also the color beige for a wall is also very important to you so you put a 1 next to that. Lets say a style of a sofa you liked is not that important to you, you could put a 5 or 4 next to it. 4. Now you should have two lists, one list is all of the things that you and your partner both like, the other list is your list that you disagree on with numbers of importance to each of you. 5. The list with your numbers on it, pick out two items that are important to each of you and write those items on the in common list. Now that is your master list to designing your room.
