2nd day of school, and I had to get this email: Hello Mrs. Johnson, I hate to have to email you about Daniel so early in the year, but we had a problem today that I need to bring to your attention. This morning in Computer Lab (I was not in the room), Daniel wanted to play games on the computer while the teacher was giving instructions. When she told him, “no” he started crying and would not listen to her. However, after taking him into the hall and having a talk with Daniel, he was able to get himself under control. Later, in our classroom during developmental centers, the children received their 3rd warning about the noise level, so I ended centers. The children were instructed to go to the rug where I was going to read them a story. Daniel refused to go. After being told 3 times to go to the rug, he finally started crying and yelling, “I want to go home”. This continued about 30 minutes in the classroom until we started to lunch. I tried to reason with Daniel and explain what our expectations were, to no avail. On the way to lunch he cried and yelled all the way down the hallway which drew the attention of the principal, the counselor, and another teacher. All 3 talked to him (one on one) but there was no change in Daniel’s behavior. It wasn’t until it was time to get his fork and tray that he stopped crying. I would like to ask you to talk to Daniel about his behavior today and encourage him to follow directions and accept the consequences in a mature, age appropriate manner, without the emotional outbursts. Thank you for your support.
