#3 Chicago This was a film I really was not keen on watching. Once Id discovered it was about the trials and tribulations of life in a womens prison my attitudes changed somewhat. Ive seen films in the past with similar plot lines and enjoyed them so I got myself comfy and settled in. I was imagining Prisoner Cell Block H the musical but there was a bit more to it than that (although Renee Zellweger looked so butch in parts of this movie she wouldnt have looked out of place with the Aussie brigade) The basic plot is 2 fame hungry women fight for the attention of the press to further their careers and avoid the drop (sounds like X factor judges!) whilst Richard Gere is out to make a quick buck or two (and no-one even mentions hamsters-allegedly) As I said I wasnt expecting to enjoy this but surprisingly I actually soon got into it. The dance routines and songs are performed well and I seemed to know most of the music already (Christ knows how??) and although the plot line is relatively predictable there is enough Razzle Dazzle and quick jokes to warrant a viewing (the newspaper vendor with both Guilty and Innocent papers waiting for the verdict made me chuckle) The truth is that no matter how much I resisted, no matter how much I convinced myself itd be shit and a waste of my time I really enjoyed it. Its not a film I would watch again but as a one time thing it kept me entertained for 2 hours (and CZJ is VERY hot in it) Overall 7/10
