3 Quick Tips for an Accurate & Consistent Toss 1. Toss from the SHOULDER ONLY by keeping a straight elbow and wrist. Make sure that the hand is flat and fingers are straight. Toss in the direction of the right net post (righty) and left net post (lefty) so that the ball travels up and down with no arc or spin. 2. Transfer your weight FORWARD with the toss onto a flexed front leg. Test your toss for accuracy. Set your stance and place the racket on the ground. Put the butt of the racket off the front foot with the head end pointing towards the correct net post. If your toss lands on the racket head you are on the right track for a flat or slice serve. 3. Look up before you toss to the place where you will expect your ball to arrive. This way your eyes will be still and focused on the point at which you will contact the ball. You will also be prepared to drive UP to contact point.
