3-day workshop with Annemie Koenen Sunday 20th, Monday 21st and Tuesday 22nd October 2013 9.00 am – 5.00 pm each day On day 1 students will be given an introduction to methods of manipulating the surface structure of felt using shibori stitch resist techniques. Students will be instructed in the making of small items. e.g. a brooch or bangle which will enable them to see the process all the way through. On days 2 and 3 there will be the opportunity to explore the techniques further and work on more complex pieces such as a necklace, small pouch bag or a panel, which can be incorporated into a wall hanging or applied to a bag flap, cushion, garment, hat at a later date. Alternatively students may wish to spend days 2 and 3 making one single larger piece such as a collar/neckpiece, headband or a bag with a manipulated surface. Guidance on calculating shrinkage and material take-up will be given for all projects. On day 3 only for those not finishing off felting a larger piece, the teaching will focus on embellishment techniques using embroidery and beading. Students will be able to work on embellishing the finished and dried items made on previous days. Annemie will bring samples of all the items which will provide plenty of inspiration for projects both in the workshop and at a later date.
