3 firefighters died, 14 injured in warehouse fire in NE China A warehouse fire in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province led to a collapse which has claimed the lives of three firefighters and injured 14 others as of 8 a.m. Saturday, while two others are still missing. The warehouse facility is located in the bottom three floors of an 11-story building, and is used for storing inflammable charcoal. The fire lasted for over 10 hours and is thought to have caused the building to collapse. Firefighters arrived in time to successfully evacuate the residents from the entire building, but unfortunately some of them did not make it out before being buried in the building’s debris. One of the three fallen firefighters was only 18 years old, while the other two were 19. Authorities say that the flames are now under control but still have not been fully quenched. They have indicated that freezing temperatures in Harbin have created difficulties in putting out the fire, because the water freezes soon after coming out of the hose. More rescue efforts are now underway to save the trapped firefighters.
