3 thoughts on the World Cup Day 14, only one more to go before a little break before the knock out rounds… And what a day it will be! Before I get into that, the knock out match ups that are known: Sat. is Brazil-Chile and Colombia-Uruguay. Sun. is Netherlands-Mexico and Costa Rica-Greece. Mon. is France-Nigeria and group G winner and group H runner up. Tue. is Argentina-Switzerland and group H winner and group G runner up. Sooooooo. 1. Obviously, the first thing is: why does Luis Suarez continue to bite opponents? He is one of the games most gifted players, but his disrespect for the game overshadows any accomplishments. https://youtube/watch?v=aEmp9RueJRI Had it been any other player in this World Cup, I may have been swayed to believe the Italians made the whole thing up in an effort to cheat through and tarnish a great player’s reputation. But THAT? That was impossible to deny. That is 3 times now he has been caught biting opponents. And that’s only what he has been caught on film doing. There were fairly negative rumors about him before he was at Ajax. All this is bad enough, but when you throw in the hand balls in the box, and his rants against the same media that voted him player of the year just this year, it is impossible to have sympathy for him. He even tried to explain it away with a heat of the moment argument. Don’t buy it. FIFA can not ban him from the EPL or a move to La Liga. They CAN ban him in International matches, and anything less than 10 games would be criminal on FIFA’s part. But, they did let Mexico get away with “puto” chants, so you never know. The organization this hurts the most is Liverpool, because this will effect the transfer fee other teams may offer, if any do. As much as I have no sympathies for the 3 Lions, it sucks that the player who knocked out England, will now also screw Liverpool. He will even very likely be mad at the British press for it, too. But hey, at least Italy is out. 2. I have mixed feelings about the Ivory Coast-Greece match, yesterday. By no means do I think Greece deserved to advance. They looked horrible in their first two games, and only skirted by on a questionable PK awarded to Georgios Samaras. https://vine.co/v/MtnO7MAx0OQ The big Greek tried to give the spot kick to his Captain, but the Greek team wasn’t having it. I have seen very few moments that pleased me more. For a player, at the crossroads he is at to garner the support of his International teammates, speaks to how special a player he is. The big guy stepped up and blasted Greece into the round of 16. And whether you like the call or not, you have to appreciate Samaras’ awareness, and knowing they’d only get through with one shot. Why take the option with 3 defenders in front of you? The Greeks are terrible team. How they got this far, I will never know. That was a special moment for one of my favorite players. Now, where I am elated for Samaras and couldn’t care about the Greeks, I can’t help but feel bad for Didier Drogba, in his last World Cup. They didn’t deserve to be knocked out of this tournament, but then again, they didn’t do themselves any favors that match. It should not have been that close that late in the game. (Note to USA. Don’t do what Ivory Coast did.) 3. It’s that time again America! https://youtube/watch?v=M11SvDtPBhA Alright, now that all of that is out of the way. We’re less than 18 hours from kickoff, and Jozey’s out against Germany. But fear not, we won’t need him until the round of 16. That’s right, knock out stages! The USA advances top of the ‘Group of Death’ with a 3-2 victory and Jurgen gives the Fatherland the double bird as he is carried off on the shoulders of his players. It won’t happen like that. Jurgen is much more subdued. But with USA winning 3-2, and Portugal winning 4-3 (if Ghana get their money; I don’t want to get into the ‘what-ifs’ if they do not), it will be an emotional afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Prepare, and drink lots of water. The boys certainly made things more difficult on themselves en route to winning the group, but it wasn’t going to be easy. We run the same 4-5-1 and stay AWAKE the entire game. This Germany game will be a wide open affair with both teams doing whatever it takes to advance, and they both will. Let Germany send the Portuguese the ‘thank you’ cards this time around. We’ll save ours for Germany when we see them again… when the USA beats them in the FINAL! vimeo/98955183 #IBelieve #IBelieveThatWeWillWin
