30/08/14 TRING TITANS 0 LONG CRENDON 6 - A.Farley (2), R.Scott (3), OG Long Crendon get off to a winning start at Tring. Crendon started their league campaign at Tring Titans and came away with all three points. Tring are noted as one of the best foot balling teams in Division 2 and the first 20 minutes were very evenly matched. Good work from the defence and midfield limited Tring to only a few half chances and when they broke through, Gaz Goodchild was in excellent form to stop any shots. Crendon however when going forward were rampant and really should have had a penalty when the Tring defender brought down Oli Lethbridge, just as he was about to shoot but the referee gave a free kick on the edge of the 18 yard box. This however did not deter Crendon in fact it pushed Crendon on. A new found desire to shut down the Tring defence by Ryan Scott allowed Alex Farley to find space and he unleashed a fierce drive which caught the Tring Defender and flew over the hands of the despairing keeper to make it 1-0. Gaz Goodchild showed great courage after making a double save one with his face to take the ball with both hands through defenders from the resulting corner kit with blood still coming out his nose. Oli Lethbridge another who works tirelessly for the team chased down a loose ball and got between the defender and the keeper to hit a shot that struck the inside of the post and rolled along the goal mouth but did not cross the line. The ever youthful Matty Wakelin passed a Beckham style ball over to Ryan who sprinted clear of the defence and gratefully slotted the ball into the net 2-0. You would think at this stage that Crendon would ease up on the pressing play but this was not the case. Tom Sykes was pressing into the Tring half at will linking with Luke Cozen. Both Tom Lethbridge and James Ford held a good defensive line winning everything in the air and on the ground allowing James Wassell to also make good runs linking with Harry Pettingell. Just before the half ended some more superb running from Harry Pettingell brought a foul by the Tring Defence, Alex Farley took this free-kick and Ryan Scott leapt high to head the ball over the keeper for his Second. Half Time: 3-0 Second half started pretty much in the same way as the first with Harry Pettingell and Luke Cozens causing problems down the sides. Harry Pettingell made a run chasing a huge kick from Gaz Goodchild sprinting into the Tring goal area with the keeper trying to stop the ball with his feet. He caught Harry slightly but he managed to leap in the air whilst spinning and convinced the ref that it was a penalty!! From the resulting spot kick Ryan Scott slotted for his third and final goal - 4-0. Crendon were put on the back foot for ten minutes by a Tring side that showed they could play football and managed to get behind the Crendon defence a few times and but for Gaz Goodchild could have found the net. Substitutions were made with Luke Cozens off Elliot Farley on, Archie Pettingell on James Wassell off and Joe Russell on Ryan Scott off. Eliot Farley came on and had an instant impact upfront with his pace troubling the Tring players and really should have got on the score sheet. Joe Russell came into midfield and brought a bit of tackling menace to the Tring players. Another goal quickly followed though as Archie Pettingell sent in a free kick after the Tring player pushed him to the ground and the defender glanced the ball into his own net, Archie tried claiming it but was an OG. 5-0 Alex Farley wrapped up scoring when he pounced on a defensive clearance, made space and slotted into the right hand corner: 6-0. All in all a very good performance but very much room for improvement. The back four of Tom Sykes, James Wassell, Tom Lethbridge and James Ford gave everything for the team; the midfield looked good with Luke Cozens, Harry Pettingell, Oli Lethbridge, Matt Wakelin and Alex Farley providing excellent cover for the defence and passing for the attack and Ryan who scored 3 and running at anyone with the ball in their defensive line. Man of the match: TEAM MOM GAZ MANAGERS MOM GAZ CHAIRMAN MOM ALEX FARLEY The big man in goal today was outstanding and brave. A big mention to very close MOM Ryan and Matty. Outstanding lads but lots of work to do to get us where we want to go.
