30 March 2014 Good Morning All the Members and Congregations Around the world. The texts word for the Divine Service this Morning is: The promise of eternal joy Revelation 12: 12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the Devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time Message This earth will be the battle- ground of the Evil One in the end-time. Nevertheless, the Lord will gain the victory. Summary Suffering and perseverance are part of being a Christian. The great wrath of the Devil can already be felt today: 1) In the persecution of Christians, 2) In the retreat of the Christian faith, 3) In the dominance of the earthly. The Evil One will only be able to develop his power over a short period of time and then his influence will come to an end! Context In the battle of the end-time, Satan will be cast down to the earth, which will become the scene of his destructive activities. On the one hand, Revelation 12 emphasizes Satan’s wrath and readiness to destroy, but on the other hand, it also stresses that the time of this destruction will be limited (“he knows that he has a short time”). The affliction unleashed by Satan is short. In the end, Christ will gain the victory. (For “The doctrine of future things”, see Catechism 10). Boodskap Hierdie aarde gaan die oorlogsveld word van die Bose in die eindtyd. Nietemin, die Here gaan die oorwinning behaal. Samevatting Lyding en volharding vorm deel Christenwees. Die Groot woede van die duiwel Kan alreeds vandag aangevoel word: 1) In die vervolging van die Christene; 2) In die afname in die Christelike geloof; en 3) In die oorheersing van die aardse dinge. Die Bose sal slegs in staat wees Om sy mag oor ʼn kort tydvak uit Te oefen; daarna sal sy invloed aan ʼn einde kom! Agtergrond In die eindstryd sal Satan uitgewerp word Na die aarde, wat die toneel van sy afbrekende werksaamhede sal word. Aan die een kant beklemtoon Openbaring 12 Satan se woede en gereedheid om te vernietig, maar aan die ander kant benadruk dit ook dat hierdie tyd van vernietiging beperk sal word (“hy weet dat hy min tyd het”). Die ellende wat deur Satan teweeggebring gaan word, is maar van korte duur. Aan die einde gaan Christus seëvier. (Vir “The Doctrine of Future Things”, Sien “Catechism” 10).
