30 Reasons Why I love my Country Series #21 Happy Independence Everybody Happy Independence to all my family, friends and cousins – and that include all Kittitians and Nevisians everywhere!! As long as you are from St Kitts-Nevis or have any association with my beloved Federation, September 19th is a significant date for you. It’s our Independence anniversary and this year we are celebrating 30 years since we crossed that threshold in 1983 under the Prime Ministership of The Right Honourable Sir Kennedy Alphonse Simmonds. The most beautiful National flag in the world is out in all its splendour blowing in the cool breeze all over the Federation – Its mounted on vehicles, on houses, on T-shirts, on bags, on scarves, on painted faces, on billboards – its everywhere. It’s just a glorious time to be a Kittitian and Nevisian. Our aptly-written most melodious National Anthem is being sung and played at venues, in schools, churches, community concerts and you feel the tangible patriotic pride of our people all over. That’s why I say Happy Independence to every Kittitian and Nevisian everywhere!! This is the time to put aside our few differences and celebrate our many similarities and achievements. “O Land of beauty. Our country where peace abounds Thy children stand free.
