30 miles today including Mt. Doom, knee wasnt thrilled about that climb at the end. Oh well. Ill rest tomorrow and do an easy ride on Sunday. It may take another few weeks before I can hit it hard 6 days a week including this big climb up to my driveway. Ill start going to the gym in between and doing some light leg lifting, core work and stretching, that should help. Done with physical therapy, I think thats gone as far as it can go. Im ahead of that curve from what I can gather. There was a woman there who @ 9 weeks (about my age) post TKR couldnt bend her knee enough to ride the stationary bike in the PT facility. At 9 weeks Ive been riding a bicycle on the road and up and down some hills for two weeks. So Im ready to be discharged from PT, she may not be. There is a wide range of outcomes; again, the 25+ years of regular cycling certainly work in my favor here. If any of you are contemplating a TKR (total knee replacement) any cycling background will play in your favor, if you can possibly ride a bike or exercise bike regularly before the operation for weeks or months that would probably help you. My neighbor who had a TKR 7+ months ago still cant ride a bike comfortably or bend his knee that far. I keep telling him that 15 mins. daily on an exercise bike would make a world of difference, but he doesnt want to do it. Cycling doesnt help you with extension (leg straight out) but then, my extension was never 0º on that right knee since my ACL reconstruction 25 years ago. My knee hangs @ 5-10º. Oh well. Its the flexion I was concerned about. Physical therapists are concerned that lack of full extension can lead to other ortho issues, but I think that Ive been living with that since 1990 already.
