31st March 2014: Australias Church Partnership Program needs to be redesign. The Australian Aid program supporting churches in Papua New Guinea should redesign as it has make Papua New Guineans become vulnerable and too dependent on handouts. Mr Reuben Mete, Director of the Youth Desk of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea raised this after officers of Church Partnership Program of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea failed to focus on implementation of programs such as the ELCPNG Youth Five Star Strategic approach rather than them wanted to fund only the review of unimplemented programs. We knew of their bumereng aid program they are implementing but our paramount interest is on the individual young people of Papua New Guinea ages 12 to 30 who have never given opportunity to participate in both church and government development programs. It is just the ignorance of the officers that they are depriving the young people and only to assist their cronies to benefits from such fund. Mete said. Mr Mete who was part of the inaugural Australian Papua New Guinea Emerging Leaders Dialogue in November last year said he will bring this matter to light with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and with the Australian High Commission Papua New Guinea this week. While Churches speaks about holistic human empowerment, such Foreign Aid program lacks ingredient of Sustainability and Youth or future empowerment thus it needs a check and balance.
