37 years ago my life changed for the better. My wife Carol and I - TopicsExpress

37 years ago my life changed for the better. My wife Carol and I eloped to Las Vegas, we went with two other couples in a rented rickety old motorhome it was only a 25 footer with six people in it. When we arrived we stayed in back of the Stardust hotel, they had a motorhome park in the back of it. The night before we had to go to City Hall for our marriage license and having only a motorhome presented a challenge. At the time we had no idea Carols son John was also in Vegas, we ran into him and he offered to run us down to get it, he only had a cargo van so Carol and I crawled into the back of the van and rolled our way downtown with nothing to hold on to but each other. We eventually made it and got our license but we had an unusual time doing that but dont have enough paper to describe that fun time. The next day Oct 16, 1976 we were to be married, right across the street from the Stardust there was one of those quicky wedding chapels and we decided that was where we were to be married we walked over and made an appointment for 8:30 that night. We spent the day with our friends just hanging around the motorhome. The park had showers and that is where we got ourselves prepared but Carol was adventurous and started looking at all of the different motorhomes and ended up in one owned by an old farmer when she didnt come back from the showers I got worried and started looking for her and as I was walking around she stepped out of this strange motorhome I said we arent even married yet and you are off in some strange motorhome. She said she just wanted to see inside. The day went by quickly and it was time to take my final walk as a single man. We got over there and stood in line for our appointment. A couple in front of us was kind of chipping at each other and as time went on they broke out into a real knockdown drag out argument and the groom to be stormed away with the bride running after him as he left he made the comment that he was not going to get married in a damned dentists office the girl running after him and her mother behind her screaming I told you he was no damned good Carol and I just looked at each other and I said we get to move up the line. We were married that night with our four friends and Carols son joined us too. Surprisingly it was a very nice ceremony. Outside they were doing their usual roadwork and there was a sign posted in front of the chapel that said ROUGH ROAD AHEAD, Carol stood on one side and I on the other at the time it seemed like a joke picture but over the years we have had some rough roads but all in all it has been pretty smooth and I wouldnt trade it for the world I wish I could find that picture but being 37 years old it is probably dog eared and yellow. My wife and I are still very much in love to this day and she has become my soul I dont know what I would do without her but might have to figure it out in another 37 years. I Love you Carol
