39 years ago, The Band released their album Northern Lights, Southern Cross. It contained only eight songs including some tracks that became well known and featured in the film The Last Waltz such as Ophelia and It Makes No Difference. My favorite track though is this one, Acadian Driftwood which loosely told the tale of the deportation of the Acadians during the French and Indian War in the 1700s. It also was the last Band song of the Robertson years that featured the three great vocalists, Helm, Dank and Manuel, singing lead. It also has some tasty accordion from Garth Hudson (if you ever thought the words tasty and accordion could be used in the same sentence, they only can when mentioned with Garth Hudson). This footage is actually from the Last Waltz concert and is not the best version of the tune, Richard Manuals voice is showing the consequences of too much hard living, but I like it since it the black and white film gives The Band that historic and timeless feel. And they were and are historic and timeless. The war was over and the spirit was broken The hills were smoking as the men withdrew We stood on the cliffs and watched the ships Slowly sinking to their rendezvous youtube/watch?v=h8OGVvSuRkk
