News Update: Minister for Petroleum Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and other high-ranking officials participated in the meeting which took place at the Prime Ministers House in the federal capital. During the meeting, Abbasi briefed the participants on the reasons behind the acute shortage of petrol, and also highlighted the steps undertaken to overcome it. Previously, the minister had denied that the oil crisis in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had been caused by negligence and insisted that his ministry was not responsible for the shortage. How can I quit the ministry until proven guilty. I dont consider myself responsible for the situation. I will myself resign if the government finds me guilty, Abbasi had said. Last week, the petrol crisis in Punjab had taken a turn for the worse as an increasing number of petrol pumps dried up and hundreds queued up outside fuel stations in various cities. Categorically rejecting the misleading media reports, Finance Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar Monday said that the Finance Ministry was not responsible for prevailing petroleum crisis in the country. Responding to questions during a press conference here, the minister said that the finance ministry neither involves in sales or purchase of petroleum products nor is it responsible for providing finances for it. He said that Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has categorically stated that the finance ministry was not responsible for the crisis as it is neither purchasing nor selling the product.
