3rd International Citizen Media Award 2013 Idea and main goal of the award The 3rd International Citizen Media Award intends to honor tremendous national (DE) and international work in the field of citizen media and its products in the categories VIDEO and AUDIO that have been created by private, non-commercial producers. The award distinguishes the dedication of citizens of all countries and their audiovisual products and their reporting concerning locally, regionally, globally and socially relevant topics. Categories An expert jury awards the national (DE) and international prizes in the following categories: Video (individual product, short movie, movie in a television broadcast, video podcast, etc.) Audio (individual product, radio spot in a radio broadcast, podcast, etc.) Prizes (national) In the category Video 3 prizes (Places 1-3): 1000 Euro prize money + trophy + certificate Participation in an international media camp + trophy + certificate 300 Euro prize money + trophy + certificate In the category Audio 1 complimentary award: 300 Euro prize money + trophy + certificate Prizes (international) In the category Video 3 prizes (Places 1-3): 1000 Euro prize money + trophy Certificate in Financial Engineering (CFE) by Risk Lattearticipation in an international media camp + trophy + certificate 300 Euro prize money + trophy + certificate In the category Audio 1 complimentary award: 300 Euro prize money + trophy + certificate Participants The competition is national (DE) and international open for single participants, groups, associations, civil initiatives, school classes and especially for producers, actors and editorial teams in the field of citizen media work. Type and quantity of products Products can be sent that have been created between the 1st of August 2012 and the 31st of August 2013. Every participant/ group can only send one product per category. German participants respectively production groups take part in the prize and its categories in the rubric NATIONAL (DE). All others take part in the rubric INTERNATIONAL. They should not exceed a running time of 20 minutes. Content of products The topic for the award 2013 is: Citizen Media for Democracy and Tolerance – Against Racism and Right – Wing Extremism Citizen media stations are places of living and experiencing democracy. They stand for freedom of expression and discourse, intercultural respect and tolerance. Community media stand together with active citizens in the social media clearly against right ideology, in contrast to the outrageous incidents around the NSU in Germany and the again dangerously growing xenophobia in Germany, Europe and the rest of the world. With this announcement and the topic choice, the supports of the third International Media Prize 2013 are encouraging citizens to produce and broadcast appropriate TV and radio products against racism and right – wing extremism, as well as to strengthen the training and education in the community media on this topic. TV and radio productions shall be developed that raise awareness for right – wing ideology and its actual impact in Germany, Europe or any other country in the world. Both nationally and internationally the participants shall locally and regionally take a stand against right – wing extremism with their submitted products on screen and in the internet. The focus is on the issue, the quality of media implementation, the authenticity, the relevance of the research and the originality in the foreground. The peculiarities of the productions will be considered by the jury in an appropriate manner. Besides the personal interest, quality, medial implementation, activity, authenticity, extent and relevance of research, design elements and innovativeness are relevant. Special features of the products in the different categories (genres) will be especially considered by the jury. Application Applications can be send postally in the form of a CD, DVD, MiniDV cassette or an USB flash drive. Alternatively links to portals can be sent, where the audio and video productions can be downloaded permanently. Every medium has to be fully signed with name, title, date of production and category. An application is only accepted if the attached document of registration is fully filled, signed and sent or mailed. Download the application form Product language (Rubric NATIONAL – DE): German. Ideally English subtitles are added to the products for this category VIDEO. In the category AUDIO ideally an English translation (transscript) as a document is added respectively mailed. But the English subtitles as well as the English translation (transscript) are not obligatory for the participation. Product language (Rubrik INTERNATIONAL): English or mother tongue including English subtitles/ translation Products in the category VIDEO (without subtitles) or AUDIO using mother tongue must include a translation (transcript) as a document! Technical standards: VIDEO: At least PAL with 720 x 576 pixels (having the aspect ratio 16:9 or 4:3) Recommendations for subtitles: Arial (font), white with black margin, size 16 maximum of 2 lines per subtitle (page), centered AUDIO: As WAV or MP3 Deadline for tenders Applications sent after the 31st of August 2013 will not be considered at all! Or send an e-mail to: info@icm-award Jury The jury consists of experienced experts in the different media categories. A pre selection will be made by experts of the supporters. The selection of the prize winning products for the awards show happens under exclusion of ordinary legal proceedings. Usage of the products With the application of the producer the supporters gain all rights concerning the presentation of the segments in front of a public, the jury and a dissemination via citizen media channels or in the framework of project meetings. In addition to that, the products can be used for academic research, trainings, etc. and can be repeatedly shown and used in clips. The producer has to take care for that he owns all rights of his product before and that the product does not harm other persons’ rights. The producer has to feel obliged to free the supporters from damages which can result of the dissemination of the products. The supporters bear no costs in these cases. In addition to that the supporters have the option to not assign prizes in single categories or just singular complimentary prizes in concerned categories, if the participation numbers are too humble. Announcement of the award winners The winners of the International Citizen Media Award will be awarded in the end of November 2013 in the framework of an intercultural event taking place in the Citizen Centre Bennohaus.
