4.1-magnitude earthquake jolts Surigao del Norte by Mike Crismundo November 15, 2013 A 4.1-magnitude earthquake has jolted Surigao del Norte at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, 2013, prompting people in the province to leave homes and buildings. Surigao del Norte Gov. Sol F. Matugas and Surigao City Mayor Ernesto T. Matugas immediately mobilized the city’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) to look for damages brought about by the Friday afternoon tremor. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD-13) has reported that no casualty or damages as of press time. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in Surigao, the tremor’s epicenter was traced 10 kilometers northwest of Malimono town, with a depth of 21 kilometers. The earthquake was tectonic in origin and no aftershocks were recorded. Intensity 3 was also recorded in the municipalities of Sison, Placer, and Taganaan in Surigao del Norte and Surigao City. The OCD-13 is still monitoring the effects of the tremor as of press time.
