4) Political Reasons: The major reason for his many marriages was to bridge the gap between the clans and bring people closer to Islam by making their tribes related to him For example: a) Marriage to juwairiyah te daughter of al harith. she along with others were taken as war prisoners in one of the battles. She came to the prophet to ak for money to pay as ransom to be set free. The prophet offered to pay ransom for her and marry her. The muslims thought its not befitting to keep the prophets in laws as prisoners of war and set them free. And the whole tribe accepted Islam. Subhanallah. b) Safiya the daughter of huyay ibn akhtab was captivated after his husband was killed in a battle. The prophet gave her the choice either to set her free and marry her or set her free and she returns to the jewish family and her seeing the prophets character, decency and gentlemanliness she chose to be his wife and embraced islam. c) Umm habibah whose father abu sufyan was at that time the leader of disbelievers and a strong enemy of the prophet. she embraced islam and travelled with her husband to ethiopia. on the death of her husband the prophet al najashi the king at that time for the hand of umm habibah in marriage and she was pleased. this led to less enemity fron the disbelievers later her father also embraced islam and boasted about the marriage of her daughter to the best man. Now we will talk about each wife seperately and the honour they got. our mothers of believers. They must be respected and venerated and their due honour to be given to them. 33:6. and no one was allowed to marry them as honour for them 33:53.
