4 years ago, these political commentators didnt know Alawis existed; now, they are experts on their sect and beliefs. Let me be the first to tell you - they are idiots. Reading Wikipedia does not give you the right to ignorantly pass judgement on a sect that you possess very little knowledge of: my mothers family is from Latakia and Wadi Al-Ghaab in Idlib - her family has lived side-by-side with the Alawi people for centuries. The Alawi practice their religion privately and they are quick to scold you if religion is brought up in conversation. What they believe is their business and I can tell you that they dont give a s*** about your opinion of them.
