40 Days of Prayer 2 For Civil Authorities (The election cycle is once again complete. Let us pray for God’s guidance and blessing on all who were elected. Pray that God would frustrate the counsel of those who would turn from You, and deny the rights to those who trust in You and seek to do Your will.) Our merciful Father in heaven, You hold in your hand all the might of man. You ordained that the power of Government should serve for the punishment of those who do wrong, and for the praise of those who obey the law. All rule and authority in all the governments of the world comes from you. We pray that you would look with favor upon Your servants – the leaders of our nation, state and community, our judges and all the rulers of the earth. May all who receive the authority as Your servants use their power in accord with Your commandments. Enlighten and defend them, O God. Grant them wisdom and understanding, that under their peaceful governing Your people may be guarded and directed in righteousness, peace and unity. Protect them, O God of our salvation, that we with them may show forth the praise of Your name, through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.
