#47 Shes going home. Shes going home. Shes going home, to die no more. The crowd was quietly singing the emotional song as they made their way to the cemetery. It was a sad and wet Saturday morning. It was early and a bit chilly, one would prefer to stay in bed. But everybody gathered up every bit of energy they had and dragged themselves out of bed. There wasnt a smile in sight, plenty of tears and pained faces. It wasnt a good day. When is it ever a good day to attend a funeral? The hearse arrived, and out came Jane, June, Michael and John. They stood in front of the hearse while the men took the coffin out from the back of the hearse. It was a beautiful white coffin with gold trims. A beautiful coffin for a beautiful girl. Jane let out a loud cry when she saw the coffin. Mike held her tight. They followed the men to the gazebo where the grave was dug out. Gorilla was behind them. Michael had made it very clear that he blamed him for little Abigails death. Reneilwe and her mom were also attending. And so were most of the kids from school. Lunga amongst them. The news had come as a great shock to him. He couldnt believe it. He hated himself for not being the friend that Abigail needed. And now she was gone and it was too late. His heart was heavy. He loved her and he didnt fight for her. Will he ever love again? People were gathered around the hole. Family members and close friends were seated under the gazebo. The service began with the pastor saying what needed to be said. Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. The pastor prayed. Mpho was sitting right next to Mike. He was tired. His head was throbbing. He hadnt slept a wink since Sunday. The day he lost his girlfriend. He didnt even get to say goodbye. He dropped a tear as he started thinking about how much he worried that whole week when nobody knew where she was. All he wanted to do was listen to her sweet voice and hug her. Thats all he wanted. To tell her that he loves her with all that he has. But it was too late. She was gone and there was nothing he could do about it. The girl he loved had left the earth with a big piece of his heart. He didnt know how he was going to move on. He was heartbroken. He was angry with himself for not doing enough to find her. He should have sensed that something was wrong when she didnt answer her phone. He watched as the coffin sunk into the ground. Abigail was taking his heart down with him. It wasnt a lovely feeling. He grew up with the concept that real men dont cry. At that moment, he didnt care. He just let the tears flow out. His baby was gone. Jane, June and John were crying as they poured a handful of rose petals in Abigails grave. Losing their loving sister was more painful than losing their mother. June sank to her knees right next to the grave and balled her eyes out. She wanted to follow her. She couldnt imagine living without her sister. Mike picked her up and went back to the gazebo. Everyone was crying now. Reality had sunken in. Even the B Gang was emotional. They never wished this on her. It was time for the reading of the tombstone. Mpho was going to do it. He gathered up all his courage and walked up to the grave. Abigail Skiti, born on 28 November 1997 and died on 6 August 2010 .. he stopped reading and stared at the tombstone. Baby, you left so suddenly. I still cant believe that youre gone. I have been asking myself why you would do this to me. To us. We had big plans. You werent supposed to leave now. Youre leaving me here alone. My heart is heavy. How am I supposed to love again? He started crying, losing his breath along the way. He managed to calm down, Rest in peace, dinga la mbilu yanga. Gone but never forgotten. I love you and I always will. Amen ...
