#4870-Let’s keep aside those statistics for a moment. Let’s keep aside those accusations of not being a match winner. Let’s keep aside those criticisms of overstaying his welcome & extending his career past his sell by date. Let’s forget for a moment all those runs & money & the endorsements, the highs of 90s, 2000s to the lows post the World cup. Let’s ignore the sheer corporate greed of trying to cash in on the mania which followed his epoch making announcement of retirement. Let’s keep aside those exaggerated, gimmicky celebrations preceding the finale. Let’s for a minute forget our petty differences on who is the best among cricketing legends past & present. Let’s save those never ending arguments for another cold, boring day. Today, this day, this moment as proclaimed proudly by TIMES truly belongs to the one & only, the incomparable Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar. To all those critics & cynics who have relentlessly hounded & pounded him with verbal barbs every single day of his illustrious career, please take a step back & hold your breath just this one time. You will get your turn tomorrow. You can resume your heated debates & analysis on his misses & misfortunes, his lows & losses, his weakness & fallacies tomorrow once the dawn breaks & the sun sets on a glorious career. But today just this one day please allow us silly, emotional fans to wallow in this feeling, to celebrate this phenomenon called SACHIN, just give us this one day where we can watch with misty eyes & a lump in our throat the little master leave the arena a proud warrior. An emperor who ruled our hearts & minds for two decades through his talent, mastery & staggering humility. There is no doubt that exciting youngsters in the offing like Kohli, Diwan would march ahead & probably even break his records. However what remains to be seen is if they can do all this, accomplish all that he has achieved & still manage to be humble, dignified & unpretentious like Sachin. This is my ode to the little master who ruled our hearts, mind, soul for so many years. Thanks for playing the game in a dignified, righteous manner setting an example for all the youngsters who will be following in your footsteps. Thanks for bringing joy & happiness in our life. Thanks once again for all the memories Sachin. One last time HAIL THE MASTER! GOOD BYE AND GOD BLESS! The Number 10 jersey will never be the same for me!!!! Anitha D.
