4th week since having both knees replaced. Some of you are - TopicsExpress

4th week since having both knees replaced. Some of you are considering knee replacement. Here are my observations and progress so far. The joint pain is gone immediate if you pay attention. It is surgery pain you need to recover from and that will take awhile. It is my theory that the physical therapy extends the healing process because you are fighting to get bend where scarring is trying to form so I think you take longer to heal (and hurt longer) because you are tearing it open and fighting the scarring. With that said, I am walking without any kind of cane or other assisting device, been shopping and out to eat. However, fatigue is an issue and I get worn out. Occasionally have to take pain meds to sleep. I am dressing myself and refuse to take assistance unless I request it and that is limited to special circumstances I am still glad I did it. My knees were shot and that daily pain is gone. The pain I have now is temporary and that is a pain I can live with.
