5 Muzzleloader tips to help you be successful. 1) Keep it dry, be sure to clean your pan out if there are any lumps in the pan. Give it a knock, if it doesnt move freely it needs replaced. 2) Use a sharp flint; it all starts with a spark. That spark can only be made with a sharp flint. More than a few small chips is enough to have a misfire. 3) Use only a small amount of powder in the pan. Experiment while shooting targets figuring out how much is enough. The less in the pan the less trigger delay. 4) Use the right powder. I recently shot Triple 7 to see if it would work. It misfired twice then fired with about a two second delay. I put triple F black powder back in and it fired the first time with little trigger delay. 5) Practice. The only way to get over the trigger delay is to get used to it with a couple dozen shots. Be sure to replace the flint when it looks chipped. What advice do you have for the flintlock hunters? Leave a comment.
