5 weeks ago, we lost our very special, funny, lovable Harriett the Fat Beagle, unexpectedly and suddenly...and now here we go again....our last man standing, Ki, 15 years old, a golden lab/retriever mix, dumber than a box of rocks, afraid of his own shadow, currently living on a diet of donuts, white bread, basted dog treats and Virginia baked ham....because that is ALL he will eat....is at the point that I have dreaded for so long. You know when they are in pain and are no longer living a quality of life anymore, but simply struggling to get through each minute, you look for certain things. I told Jim that when I got THE LOOK, I would know it was time. Ki looked at me and his eyes bore into mine. That was the look. I know its time. Time to say good bye. Time to remember and let go. Time for that one final car ride...except this time, I come back alone. God help me. I hope this is the right decision.
