5 youth rescued from Kaunsarnag; Airforce pressed into service: Five youth were rescued from Kaunsarnag with the help of Air force, Army, civil administration and Kulgam police when the glacier they were trekking on cracked and slided in to the lake. According to district police authorities, five youth from Srinagar, Fahad Hafeez son of Abdul Rashid resident of Natipora, Amir son of Sarfaraz resident of HMT Srinagar, Mohib son of Waqar resident of Habba Kadal, Adil son of Mushtaq Ahmad resident of Karnnagar, Salman Riyaz son of Riyaz Ahmad resident of Barbar Shah Srinagar.who had gone for trekking to the high altitude lake of Kaunsarnag in the jurisdiction of police station D.H pora, Kulgam. The glacier they were trekking on cracked into two. One of the glacier chunk carrying four boys slided into the water. One of the youth got stuck on the other half who managed to come out informed the Kulgam police. A joint rescue operation was launched with the help of the civil administration and Army’s 62 RR. The services of Air force chopper was utilized and all the five boys were rescued and flown to safer place.
