50 years ago, no one imagined the computer age would get here so quickly. Relegated to b-movies and comic books, hand held portable phones, sleek electric cars (as well as flying cars) were fun to imagine. But, no one really thought those things would hit in their lifetime. We were happy with our brand new electric ranges and hairdryers. With our AM radio and microwave dinners. Strange days indeed. Or were they? In the 60s stories were written, like 1984, that were painting a dystopic vision of the future where our lives would be tracked. Our Television could watch us. Our cars could drive themselves. And telephones would be small enough to fit in your hand and connect you to the entire wealth of information in the world. And Big Brother would use these technologies (that seemed impossible at the time) to manipulate us. To feed us propaganda. To tell us up is down and war is peace. Welcome, friends. It seems we are knocking on the door of our future. Much sooner than we expected. Scientists are now saying the singularity (that is the ultimate expression of living artificial intelligence - in the simplest terms, robots) will happen in about 25 years. Everyones got their own beliefs. It could be a good thing. It could be a terrible thing. But, going from horse and buggy to hovercrafts in just over 100 years... we are careening ahead in technology so fast its mind boggling. These are the strange days indeed. Most peculiar mama. :) Take it away John Lennon...
