Hamagam, Minna Hits: 661 The National Examinations Council (NECO) yesterday announced that out of the 978, 886 candidates who sat for the June/July 2014 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations, 511, 931 representing 52.29 percent passed at credit level in five subjects, including Mathematics and English Language. The Registrar and Chief Executive officer of the Council, Professor Promise Okpala, who announced the result in Minna, said of the candidates who wrote the examination, 727, 389, representing 74.30 percent, made five credits and above, adding that 978,886 candidates out of the 989,622 who registered, sat for the examinations conducted in 76 subjects. The registrar said out of the candidates who sat for the examination, 702, 115 candidates, representing 72.58 percent scored credit level and above in English Language while 667, 529 candidates representing 69.49 percent made similar grades in Mathematics. According to him, in the sciences, out of 427,152 candidates 418, 440, representing 72.86 percent that sat for Chemistry had credits while out of 426,887 candidates 418,440 representing 69.38 percent that sat for Physics got credit levels and in Biology 67.83 percent translating to 783, 975 out of 805, 486 candidates made credit grades. Professor Okpala said apart from the cost of conducting the examination, insecurity in many parts of the country affected the smooth conduct of the council’s operations. He said 0.44 percent of candidates were involved in examination malpractice.
