53 years of family entertainment! Today, Six Flags Over Texas is celebrating 53 years of fun in the Lone Star State. The park officially opened on August 5th, 1961. And without DisneyLand, Six Flags may have have never existed. Founder of Six Flags, Angus Wynne Jr. made a visit to DisneyLand urging Disney to build a new location in the DFW area. At the time Disney was not ready to commit on building a new location. So Angus decided to do it himself and construct his own park. After complications with the name, Angus decided to go with Six Flags Over Texas, as opposed to Texas Under Six Flags. It took about a year to construct the park at a US investment of $10 million dollars. To show you how times have changed, Giants renovation was around that price it took to build the entire park in 1961. Since its opening, Six Flags Over Texas has continuously performed well in terms of revenue and attendance! And Six Flags has since become the worlds largest theme park operator! Check out some accomplishments below. -Largest collection of roller coasters - Six Flags Magic Mountain. -Worlds largest theme park - Six Flags Great Adventure. -One of the worlds best show parks - Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
